Protecting Americas Second Amendment

America’s Second Amendment is often referred to as the right to bear arms and is one of the ten amendments that formed the Bill of Rights.  Over the years, there have been numerous interpretations, which has fueled the long running debate over gun control and the individual right to own and possess a firearm.

“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”.  The text from the second amendment seems straight forward and clear enough; and over the years, Supreme Court rulings have been consistent in validating exactly that. 

In June of 2008, the Supreme Court issued its first decision since 1939 interpreting the second amendment.   The landmark case, District of Columbia v. Heller was a death blow to the anti-gun lobby, because it clarified and codified every component of a citizen’s right to legal gun ownership; and the progressives have been plotting to undermine this ruling ever since.     

Never in America’s history has the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS) played a more vital role in protecting America’s future than it does today.  Sadly, for many in power, America’s Constitution is simply another impediment to hurdle over.  Joe Biden’s record setting Executive orders have sought to bypass the legislative process and usurp America’s founding documents. He and the rest of the progressives have their sights set on obliterating the Second Amendment.

In speeches, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been quoted as saying, “This administration will not wait for the next mass shooting to heed the call to act.”  Part of the Biden/Harris anti-gun proposal is to ban the manufacturing of rifles, magazines and other firearms, and to eliminate gun sales and manufacturing here in the United States, wiping out generations of private American family businesses with a single stroke of the progressive pen.   

In New York, activist attorney general Leticia James has targeted the NRA for extermination.   She alleged that the NRA misused some of its finances and engaged in “self-dealing.”  The suit claimed the NRA misused charitable funds “to support wasteful spending by the NRA and its executives.”  Just like Bide/Harris, James is another elected official abusing her office and position of authority to bully people she does not agree with; and to sidestep the Constitution for political and personal gain. 

The NRA has since moved its offices to a more business friendly climate, like Texas.  Progressive democrats continue to weaponize political offices against the people. This dangerous trend of progressive sponsored lawfare will undoubtably continue unless confronted immediately. The courts must play an integral role in holding an abusive executive branch accountable, at both state and federal levels.   

We are fortunate for now that President Donald Trump followed through with his promise to protect and defend the second amendment by appointing constitutionalist judges to the to the Supreme Court.  America’s courts should never be in the business of legislating from the bench.  Their role is to interpret the Constitution, not to pick and choose which parts it agrees with.

Lastly, going forward, elected leaders must be held accountable for abuses of power while in office.  The framers went to great lengths to prescribe guard rails to protect our fundamental liberties, but it requires a steadfast resolve from those entrusted to protect it.  

Fortunately for the American people, if recent SCOTUS rulings are any indicator, I trust this court to provide a necessary check and balance against the centralization of power by progressive democrats.
